Ever since visiting Istanbul last year, I have a new appreciation for pudding (and pistachios!). Homemade pudding, that is. None of the instant, powdered J-E-L-L-O … [Read more...]

This recipe is so simple it’ll make you cry. Eat with anything and everything. Ingredients: 1 head butter lettuce, washed and chopped 1 avocado, chopped 2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1 Tablespoon lemon juice 2 Tablespoons fresh basil, shredded salt and pepper (to taste) Directions: Toss all ingredients in a mixing bowl and combine. Serve and eat. … [Read more...]

I can’t believe it has taken me so long to feature this recipe on the blog. This dish was a staple for me back in 2007 when I lived in Charleston with my room mate (J. Anderson, I’m talking about you!). I don’t remember where the recipe came from, but I recall doing the Sonoma Diet at the time so there’s a good chance the inspiration came from there (although these pitas are certainly … [Read more...]

This cake is delicious for breakfast or a snack. It’s also perfect for commuting and road trips. You can eat it with your fingers or a fork. It’s decently healthy, almost vegan (if there is such a thing), and my husband, who is not a fan of whole wheat baked goods, loves it. I know that cooking with whole wheat flour can be daunting, but I hope you’ll give this recipe a try. Ingredients: … [Read more...]

I find that pasta dishes are ideal when you’re not in the mood to cook. I made this the other night after a long, exhausting day at work. It was one of those times when cooking was the very last thing I wanted to do and so, naturally, my sweet (and sometimes clueless) husband inquired as to what I would be preparing to eat that night. I nearly lost it. My brains started to boil, my lips smoked, … [Read more...]

Most days I am not a breakfast person. I’m fine with a cup of coffee and a granola bar or a piece of toast. I’m just not into breakfast (unless someone puts a muffin or donut in front of my face in which case I can conjure an appetite faster than you can blink). But occasionally I’ll wake up starving. Does this ever happen to you? At times like this, I need bulk, heft and lots of protein- a … [Read more...]

This is not my recipe, I only wish I had thought of it first. I ripped it straight from the pages of one of my favorite, super indulgent food blogs, How Sweet It Is. (Jessica, the creator, is a master baker!) I usually don’t copy recipes word for word, but this one was so good, I want to keep it on hand for years to come. I used chocolate chips instead of chunks, but that was the only (and very … [Read more...]

I made these beauties last weekend on St. Patty’s Day. They were gorgeous with spicy Coleman’s mustard and a pint of Guinness. I be they’d be even better at brunch with a bloody or a mimosa. These potato cakes are similar to latkes, with the addition of parsnips. What is a parsnip, you ask? It’s basically a white carrot, milder in flavor than their orange cousins. Ingredients: (makes … [Read more...]

Feeling hung over after all those pints of Guinness yesterday? If so, you’ll need some home cooked comfort food to make it all better. This cheesy grits casserole will set you straight. We ate this the morning after our wedding and it definitely saved the day! After a long night of drinking and dancing, these creamy, crispy grits tasted so amazing I had to get the recipe to share with ya’ll. … [Read more...]

I love the smell of baked apples and spices this time of year. Making these turnovers was an excuse to fill the kitchen with nostalgic, seasonal smells. And to eat crispy, flaky turnovers. This year, hand pies are all the rage and cake is a thing of the past. I couldn’t be happier about this as I am a fool for pie. Fruit and spices baked into crust- yes, please! When brainstorming this recipe, I … [Read more...]

I’m not sure that “stew” is the best or most accurate term for this dish. It’s thick with very little liquid, so you can’t really sop it up with bread. And, although it’s made with eggplant, onion, and tomatoes, it’s definitely not a ratatouille. Whatever it is, I’m calling it a stew because the vegetables are in fact stewed together until nearly all the liquid has cooked off. My … [Read more...]
